AVG 8.0 Installation Walkthrough

Download your PDF Version with images here.

AVG 7.5 has been revised and improved to AVG 8.0. It is still free, but support for version 7 will cease on May 31, 2008. If you’ve enjoyed your free version of AVG and would like to upgrade to version 8 go here:

Courtesy of www.download.com and www.grisoft.com.

If the address above is not linked then you can copy it and paste it into the web address bar on your internet browser (Explorer, Firefox, Opera). AVG version 8 will automatically uninstall older versions of itself during the installation of the newer version.

For a PDF File that includes all of the images please click here:

This should be on the screen when you click on the link provided above. Click on the Download Now link and you will see this (shown below):

The text added to the picture is small, but basically this is what you should see after you click on the download now link. Explorer is shown on the left side and Firefox is shown on the right. It’s the normal procedure for either web browser when you download a file from the internet.

After you have chosen your installation method you will have to wait about 10 minutes (High Speed) or longer (Dial Up) for the download to get into your computer. I’ve had to do multiple downloads due to the high number of demand for the file so don’t be surprised if you have to download this file more than once due to being bumped off the download or download being incomplete.

Here are the steps involved after you run the program.

Step 1.

You can read this if you like, but I usually just choose next. The Acceptance Policy is next. This is just a part of the window below but, it should have the AVG graphic also.

Step 2.

Click on the Accept button to continue…

Step 3.

Accept the EULA (End User License Agreement) to continue.

Step 4

The installation begins……….

Select the Standard Installation (Default) and click the Next button.

Step 6

This is the license screen. It will automatically fill itself. The User Name and License Number may look different than what you see here leave it as is and press Next.

Step 7

In the picture above I suggest that you uncheck the AVG Security Toolbar. This toolbar will be at the top of your web browser (Explorer, Firefox, Opera) when you start your internet. It is up to you the user whether or not you will want this added security.

If you choose not to have it, uncheck the box and click the Next button.

Step8

This window will show you what is being installed. Click the Finish Button to finalize the installation.

Step 9

The final installation will begin as shown above…..

Step 10

If all went well then you should be at this window. Press the OK button to finish.

Now that the installation is complete you have to configure AVG.

  • You can see the new installation interface here more Vista style than XP. Choose the Next button after reading this window.

  • Select what time you want your computer to be scanned here. You can change these settings later through the advance configurations.

  • You can check this box if you wish to participate in AVG’s continued research of malicious web sites or just click Next.

  • You should select the Skip button here or you will receive a warning about not being able to update at this time. You will up date after installation is complete.

  • It is up to you if you would like to register with AVG. It is not required so you can just click the Next button and finish the installation.

  • Congratulations! Press the finish button and you’re almost done….

  • If the AVG command window does not pop up after you finish installing it. Click on the AVG start icon next to your Time Clock or choose it from your Start Menu. Start > All Programs > AVG Free 8.0 > AVG Free User Interface.

  • Using your left mouse button click twice on the Task Bar icon:

  • And the User Control window will pop up.

  • This is the new user interface of AVG 8.0. Click on the Update Now link on the left of this window. The program will connect to the AVG servers and look for updates.

  • Here is a picture of what appears after the program has found updates:

  • Click on the Update button to finish the updating of the program. The program will finish updating itself as shown below:

  • If everything is successful you should see this screen below:

  • Now you are finally finished!!!!!! You may be prompted to restart your computer after everything is complete. It is your choice if you would like to do it now or later.

I hope you enjoyed Fusion Newsletter. I put a lot of time and thought into this. I have a deep passion for computer technology and for customer service.

The things I talk about in my newsletter are simple issues that will only help you the customer. Yes it will take money out of my pocket, but I don’t really care. I believe in giving more than taking and you know what? Money doesn’t make me happy; Helping people does and if I get paid in the process then I will have something to pay my bills with along with my happiness.

When I first ventured out into the consulting field I would accept a dozen of home baked chocolate chip cookies for the work I did instead of cash. Sometimes I still do. That makes me feel happy in life.
Thank you for allowing me to serve you. I hope that the work I have done for you made your life easier put a smile on your face and created happiness in your world.

I wish you and your family the best in life and I hope you become wealthy in whatever path you have taken.
Sincerely ~
Jason Scouten
